SampleSort – Getting Started

The basic workflow is simple – SampleSort is designed to find samples for you, with minimal input or fuss.

Full Scan

  1. Launch SampleSort or download if you haven’t already installed it.
  2. Go to the Database View
  3. Click the green Scan button scan-button

SampleSort will gather up all the directories and then scan them for relevant files. Whilst scanning your machine SampleSort will also categorise the files automatically.

Scan Individual Locations

Rather than sending SampleSort off all over your drives, scanning everything. You can navigate to individual locations on your machine and selectively scan particular hard drives or folders.

  1. Go to the Browser view.
  2. Find the location you want to scan.
  3. Righ-Click on the location and click the appropriate Scan option. Scan (adds files to the database) or Scan (Wipe DB) (clears the database and then scans).
  4. Repeat this for all the locations you want included.

Partial Scan

Another method of building the database is largely similar to the full scan process but you can tell SampleSort to exclude certain locations whilst performing full scans. To do this:

  1. Got to the Configure View.
  2. Select the Database Options tab.
  3. In the Directory Blocking Section click the Add button.
  4. Navigate to the location to exclude (can be a root drive like C:\), select it and click OK.
  5. Repeat for all folders or drives you want to ignore.
  6. Click Save to save the list.
  7. Go to the Database View
  8. Click the green Scan button scan-button
